1. Sample letter for new students to send to benefit offices just before you enrol at QMUL (NB if you won’t be getting any student income, you should still write to the offices that are paying you benefit and tell them that you will become a full time student, but without any student income, as this is a change in your circumstances) (your claim reference number) (date) Dear Sir/Madam, Re. ESA (IR)/Housing Benefit/LHA/Universal Credit (delete as appropriate) claim of (insert your name and address) I am writing to inform you of a relevant change in my circumstances. I will become a full-time student on the18th September 2017 at Queen Mary University of London. I will be in receipt of Student Finance. I have attached a print off of my undergraduate Student Finance entitlement letter/postgraduate research council award letter/QM studentship award letter/PCDL for living costs letter (delete as appropriate) or I will send you a copy as soon as I receive it. Although I am aware that most full-time students cannot claim welfare benefits, I understand that I fall into one of the excepted groups of vulnerable students who can claim. Because I have a disability/and or ongoing ill health I understand that despite my full-time student status, I retain an underlying eligibility for ESA (IR)/Housing Benefit/LHA/ Universal Credit. (For ESA (IR)/ Universal Credit I am in receipt of DLA/PIP). However, I also understand that relevant elements of my student income will be taken into account and that my ESA (IR)/HB/LHA/UC entitlement may be affected. I would therefore be grateful if you could reassess my ESA (IR)/HB/LHA/UC entitlement accordingly. Yours faithfully,
